Purpose of This Manual

This manual equips leaders to pastor new believers, not simply to teach lessons. The goal is formation, not information—creating a space where Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and obedience shape life over time.

How to Use This Manual

A Guide for Accompanying New Believers

First Steps is a formative process, not a classroom curriculum. Each session is designed to help participants encounter the Word, listen to the Holy Spirit, and respond in obedience over time.

This manual exists to help you pastor people, not just deliver content.

Your Role as a Leader

You are not a lecturer—you are a spiritual guide. Your role is to:

Create a safe and welcoming environment
Keep the group centered on Scripture
Allow participants to discover truth before explaining it
Pastor hearts, questions, and resistance with sensitivity
Lead prayer and ministry attentively to the Holy Spirit

Important Leadership Guidelines

Do not rush transformation—growth takes time
Affirm before correcting
Celebrate obedience, even when it is small
Avoid pressure, especially in areas like baptism, giving, or spiritual experiences
Let the Holy Spirit lead—this manual is a guide, not a script

Group Size and Context

Ideal for:

Small groups: maximum two students (families can be treated as one unit)
One-on-one discipleship
Micro-churches / church plants
Processes for new believers or membership

Final Encouragement for Leaders

Disciples are formed through truth, time, and tenderness. Teach faithfully and love deeply. Trust that God will complete the work He has begun in each person.

Weekly Rhythm

Each session follows the same flow:

1. Welcome and Prayer

Establish an atmosphere of peace and expectation. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead.

2. Scripture Reading

Read the assigned passages slowly and clearly. Avoid explaining—let the Word speak first.

3. Discovery Bible Study (DBS)

Ask the questions exactly as written.
Let participants respond in their own words
Avoid correcting or teaching while someone is speaking
Encourage listening and mutual respect

4. Teaching

After discovery, present the Teaching section.
Clarify and pastor gently
Keep Scripture at the center
Teach descriptively, without rushing

5. Ministry Time

End with prayer, response, or action.
Make space for silence and reflection
Invite, never force
Trust the work of the Holy Spirit

WEEK 1 — New Life in Christ

Key Scriptures

2 Corinthians 5:17 & Romans 8:15–16

DBS Questions

What stands out to you about what God has done for you in these verses?
How does knowing you are a child of God affect your life this week?
How does this truth change your life?

Teaching

Scripture declares that anyone in Christ is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Salvation is not behavior modification, but spiritual re-creation. The past no longer defines the believer. God initiates a new life, a new direction, and a new purpose through Christ.
Romans 8 teaches that this new life includes a new relationship with God. Believers receive the Spirit of adoption, not fear. They are no longer strangers seeking approval, but sons and daughters who belong to God and can cry out: “Abba, Father!”
Security rests on God’s promise and the testimony of the Spirit, not on emotions or performance. Because the Holy Spirit confirms we are God’s children, obedience flows from love and spiritual growth is born from grace.

WEEK 2 — The Lordship of Jesus

Luke 9:23 & Proverbs 3:5–6

Teaching

Jesus defines discipleship as daily surrender—denying oneself, taking up the cross, and following Him (Luke 9:23). Following Jesus is not a one-time decision, but a daily posture of submission to His leadership.
Proverbs 3 calls believers to trust in the Lord with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding. As they submit their ways to God, He promises to direct their paths with wisdom and care.
Lordship transforms everyday decisions. Over time, believers learn to ask not only: “What do I want?” but: “What honors Jesus?” This transformation happens gradually, as the Holy Spirit gently invites deeper obedience.

Ministry Time

Prayer of surrender and trust.

Week 3 — Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

Romans 6:3–4 & 1 Corinthians 11:23–26

What do these verses show about entering new life in Christ and remembering His sacrifice?
How do baptism and the Lord’s Supper shape the way we live as disciples?

Teaching

Romans 6 teaches that believers are baptized into Christ’s death and raised to walk in new life. Water baptism publicly identifies the believer with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, marking a decisive break with the past.
Baptism does not save, but it powerfully declares what God has already done by grace. Coming out of the water symbolizes resurrection life—a new identity and direction rooted in Christ.
The Lord’s Supper continually calls believers to remember Christ’s sacrifice and proclaim His death until He comes (1 Corinthians 11). Baptism marks the beginning of the journey; communion sustains the believer in grace, unity, and dependence on Christ.

Week 4 — Life in the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:8 & John 14:16–17

Teaching

Jesus promised the Holy Spirit as a Helper who would dwell with and within believers (John 14). God never intended for us to live by our own strength. The Spirit ensures God’s presence and guidance.
Acts 1:8 reveals that the Holy Spirit empowers believers to be witnesses. This power equips you for faithful living and bold testimony, actively participating in God’s mission.
Living led by the Spirit is learned over time. Through Scripture, prayer, and community, believers grow in discernment, character, and obedience as the Spirit shapes their lives.

Week 5 — The Word and Prayer

Teaching

Acts 2 shows how the early church devoted themselves to daily disciplines of the Word and prayer, establishing a consistent spiritual rhythm. God’s Word continues to guide and ground believers in truth.
Psalm 119 describes Scripture as a lamp and light, illuminating the path and providing direction for daily decisions. As believers approach the Word each day, their lives are shaped by divine wisdom.
Prayer is a daily, sincere response to God’s voice. Together, the Word and prayer form a spiritual cycle that sustains growth, deepens trust, and guides obedience.

Week 6 — Belonging, Holiness, and Mission

Key Scriptures

Acts 2:42–47 & 1 Peter 2:9–10

Teaching

Acts 2 presents a living community marked by shared life, sincere prayer, generosity, and mutual care. Belonging creates the context where faith flourishes—connection precedes action.
Peter reminds believers that they are a chosen people, called out of darkness into God’s marvelous light. True holiness flows from identity in Christ and Spirit-led transformation, not performance.
Because they belong to God, believers boldly proclaim His excellencies. Mission flows naturally from identity and is expressed in everyday life.

Ministry Time

Prayer of commitment to community and boldness in witness.

Week 7 — Overcoming Temptation and Walking in Forgiveness

Key Scriptures

1 Corinthians 10:13 & Ephesians 4:32

DBS Questions

1. What does this verse teach us about God and about temptation?

2. What do these verses teach us about God’s heart, and what do they
teach us about how to treat others?

Teaching

Paul teaches that temptation is universal and not unbearable. You are not alone in what you face—others have gone through the same and have overcome. This gives you hope (it breaks the lie: “No one understands my struggle”).
God is faithful and not indifferent to your trial. He does not observe passively—He is involved, setting limits on what you face and always providing a “way out.” That way can take different forms; for example: a door, a decision, a concrete action on your part—fleeing, resisting, seeking help, changing your environment, etc.
Forgiveness must be a lifestyle for the believer in Jesus. It should not be optional or occasional—it is a continual decision, even when it hurts.
The greatest model of a life of forgiveness is our Lord Jesus Christ. We forgive because we have been forgiven—not from human merit, but from the grace we have received from Jesus.

Ministry Moment

A prayer for protection in the midst of trial and for trust in God’s faithfulness during it. Cry out for the ability to embrace a lifestyle of forgiveness and ask the Lord for help when it becomes difficult to forgive.

A Final Word for Leaders
Remember that disciples are formed by God, not by pressure or perfection. Your calling is to walk faithfully with people, create space for the Word and the Spirit, and trust God with the results. Small steps of obedience matter more than visible results.

Lead from intimacy with Christ, not from activity. Remain rooted in prayer, the Word, and community. By modeling a life of trust and surrender, others will learn to follow Jesus in the same way.

The God who is forming disciples through your leadership is also forming you. Trust Him with the work—and with your own heart.

Disciple’s Manual — Personal Guide for Spiritual Growth

Purpose of this Manual

This manual is designed to help you grow in your new life with Jesus.It is not just a book to learn information, but a guide to walk with God Day by day. The goal is that the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, and obedience will shape your life over time.
This process will help you:

Know God personally
Understand who you are in Christ
Learn to live as a disciple
Grow in faith, obedience, and trust
Walk alongside other believers

Spiritual growth does not happen in a day. God forms life little by little.

How to Use This Manual

First Steps with Jesus is a spiritual journey, not a school class. Each week you will do three important things:

Read the Bible
Reflect on what God says
Respond with obedience

During each session:

You will listen to the Word
Share what you understand
Learn a simple teaching
Pray and respond to God

You don’t need to know much to begin. You just need a willing heart.

Your Commitment as a Disciple

During this process, aim to:

Attend each week
Read the verses carefully
Speak honestly
Listen to others respectfully
Pray with an open heart
Practice what God shows you

WEEK 1 — New Life in Christ

Scriptures

Read the passages slowly.

2 Corinthians 5:17 & Romans 8:15–16

Teaching

When a person receives Christ, God does something new in their life.

The Bible says that anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.

This means:

Your past does not define your future
God gives you a new identity
A new life begins

You also receive a new relationship with God. You are no longer a stranger.

You are a son or daughter of God.

The Holy Spirit confirms in your heart that you belong to Him.

The Christian life is not based on emotions, but on God’s promise.

WEEK 2 — Jesus Is Lord

Scriptures

Luke 9:23 & Proverbs 3:5–6

What does it mean to follow Jesus?
What area of your life do you need to surrender to God?
What does it mean to trust God and not your own understanding?

Teaching

Following Jesus is not just believing in Him. It is allowing Him to lead your life. Jesus said we must:

Deny ourselves
Take up our cross
Follow Him daily

This means trusting God even when we don’t understand everything. When we surrender our ways to God, He guides our life.

Over time we learn to ask:

What does God want?
What honors Jesus?
The Holy Spirit helps us obey.

WEEK 3 — Baptism and the Lord's Supper

What does it mean to die and rise with Christ?
Why is baptism important?
What does it mean to remember Jesus in the Lord’s Supper?

Teaching

Baptism is a visible sign of what God has done inside you. Going into the water represents dying with Christ. Coming out represents new life.

Baptism does not save, but it declares that you belong to Jesus.

The Lord’s Supper reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice. It helps us live with gratitude, faith, and dependence on God. Baptism marks the beginning. Communion sustains us along the way.

WEEK 4 — Life In The Holy Spirit

What does the Holy Spirit do in the believer’s life?

Teaching

God does not want you to live alone. The Holy Spirit lives in you. He:

Teaching

We are all tempted.

Temptation is not the same as sin; sin is giving in to temptation.

God is faithful in your weakness and walks with you.

God is not an indifferent spectator of your situation: He sets limits and provides a way out. We forgive because we have been forgiven. Forgiveness benefits me first. Forgiveness is the love of Christ and His grace working through me.

Enseñanza

La Escritura declara que todo el que está en Cristo es una nueva creación (2 Corintios 5:17). La salvación no es modificación de conducta, sino recreación espiritual. La vida pasada ya no define al creyente. Dios inicia una nueva vida, una nueva dirección y un nuevo propósito por medio de Cristo.
Romanos 8 enseña que esta nueva vida incluye una nueva relación con Dios. Los creyentes reciben el Espíritu de adopción, no de temor. Ya no son extraños que buscan aprobación, sino hijos e hijas que pertenecen a Dios y pueden clamar: “¡Abba, Padre!”

Enseñanza

Jesús define el discipulado como una rendición diaria—negarse a sí mismo, tomar la cruz y seguirle (Lucas 9:23). Seguir a Jesús no es una decisión única, sino una postura diaria de sumisión a Su liderazgo.
Proverbios 3 llama a los creyentes a confiar en el Señor con todo el corazón y no apoyarse en su propio entendimiento. Al someter sus caminos a Dios, Él promete dirigir sus sendas con sabiduría y cuidado.

Enseñanza

SEMANA 7 — VENCIENDO LA TENTACIÓN Y CAMINANDO EN PERDÓN

Enseñanza

Pablo enseña que la tentación es universal y no es insoportable, no estás solo en lo que enfrentas, otros han pasado por lo mismo y han vencido. Eso te da esperanza (esto rompe la mentira “Nadie entiende mi lucha”)
Dios es fiel y no es indiferente a tu prueba. Dios no observa pasivamente, El está involucrado, cuidando los límites de lo que enfrentas y siempre ofrecerá una “Salida” y esa viene en diferentes formas; ejemplo una puerta, una decisión, una acción concreta de tu parte: Huir, resistir, buscar ayuda, cambiar tu entorno, etc.
El perdón debe ser un estilo de vida del creyente en Jesús, no debe ser opcional ni ocasional, es una decisión continua, incluso cuando duele.

Oración de protección en medio de la prueba y de confianza en la fidelidad de Dios en medio de ella, hacer un clamor para poder aceptar un estilo de vida de perdonador y pedirle ayuda al Señor cuando se me haga difícil perdonar.

UNA PALABRA FINAL PARA LOS LÍDERES

Recuerda que los discípulos son formados por Dios, no por presión ni perfección. Tu llamado es caminar fielmente con las personas, crear espacio para la Palabra y el Espíritu, y confiar a Dios los resultados. Los pequeños pasos de obediencia importan más que los resultados visibles.

Lidera desde la intimidad con Cristo, no desde la actividad. Permanece arraigado en la oración, la Palabra y la comunidad. Al modelar una vida de confianza y rendición, otros aprenderán a seguir a Jesús de la misma manera.

El Dios que está formando discípulos a través de tu liderazgo también te está formando a ti. Confía en Él con la obra—y con tu propio corazón.

Propósito de este manual

Este manual está diseñado para ayudarte a crecer en tu nueva vida con Jesús. No es solo un libro para aprender información, sino una guía para caminar con Dios día a día. El objetivo es que la Palabra de Dios, el Espíritu Santo y la obediencia formen tu vida con el tiempo.

Este proceso te ayudará a:

Conocer a Dios de manera personal
Entender quién eres en Cristo
Aprender a vivir como discípulo
Crecer en fe, obediencia y confianza
Caminar junto a otros creyentes

El crecimiento espiritual no ocurre en un día. Dios forma la vida poco a poco.

Cómo usar este manual

Primeros pasos con Jesús es un camino espiritual, no una clase escolar. Cada semana harás tres cosas importantes:

Leer la Biblia
Reflexionar en lo que Dios dice
Responder con obediencia

Durante cada sesión:

Escucharás la Palabra
Compartirás lo que entiendes
Aprenderás una enseñanza sencilla
Orarás y responderás a Dios

No necesitas saber mucho para empezar. Solo necesitas un corazón dispuesto.

Tu compromiso como discípulo

Durante este proceso, procura:

Asistir cada semana
Leer los versículos con atención
Hablar con sinceridad
Escuchar a los demás con respeto
Orar con un corazón abierto
Practicar lo que Dios te muestre

Dios trabaja en la vida de quienes caminan con Él.

SEMANA 1 — NUEVA VIDA EN CRISTO

Lee los pasajes lentamente

2 Corintios 5:17 & Romanos 8:15–16

Reflexiona

¿Qué te llama la atención sobre lo que Dios ha hecho por ti?
¿Qué significa para ti saber que eres hijo(a) de Dios?
¿Cómo cambia tu vida esta verdad?

Enseñanza

Cuando una persona recibe a Cristo, Dios hace algo nuevo en su vida. La Biblia dice que el que está en Cristo es una nueva creación.

Esto significa:

Tu pasado no define tu futuro
Dios te da una nueva identidad
Empieza una nueva vida

También recibes una nueva relación con Dios. Ya no eres un extraño. Eres hijo o hija de Dios. El Espíritu Santo confirma en tu corazón que perteneces a Él. La vida cristiana no se basa en emociones, sino en la promesa de Dios.

SEMANA 2 — JESÚS ES EL SEÑOR

Lucas 9:23 & Proverbios 3:5–6

Reflexiona

¿Qué significa seguir a Jesús?
¿Qué área de tu vida necesitas entregar a Dios?
¿Qué significa confiar en Dios y no en tu propio entendimiento?

Enseñanza

Seguir a Jesús no es solo creer en Él. Es permitir que Él dirija tu vida. Jesús dijo que debemos:

Negarnos a nosotros mismos
Tomar la cruz
Seguirle cada día

Esto significa confiar en Dios aunque no entendamos todo.

Cuando entregamos nuestros caminos a Dios, Él guía nuestra vida.

Con el tiempo aprendemos a preguntar:

¿Qué quiere Dios? ¿Qué honra a Jesús?

El Espíritu Santo nos ayuda a obedecer.

SEMANA 3 — BAUTISMO Y CENA DEL SEÑOR

Romanos 6:3–4 & 1 Corintios 11:23–26

Reflexiona

¿Qué significa morir y resucitar con Cristo?
¿Por qué es importante el bautismo?
¿Qué significa recordar a Jesús en la Cena del Señor?

Enseñanza

El bautismo es una señal visible de lo que Dios hizo dentro de ti.

Entrar al agua representa morir con Cristo. Salir del agua representa nueva vida.

El bautismo no salva, pero declara que perteneces a Jesús. La Cena del Señor nos recuerda el sacrificio de Cristo. Nos ayuda a vivir con gratitud, fe y dependencia de Dios. El bautismo marca el comienzo. La comunión nos sostiene en el camino.

SEMANA 4 — VIDA EN EL ESPÍRITU SANTO

Dios no quiere que vivas solo. El Espíritu Santo vive en ti. Él:

Te fortalece
Te ayuda a obedecer

También te da poder para ser testigo. La vida espiritual se aprende con el tiempo. Escuchando a Dios. Orando. Leyendo la Biblia. Caminando con otros creyentes

Enseñanza

Los primeros cristianos crecían porque:

Escuchaban la Palabra
Oraban juntos
Vivían en comunidad

La Biblia es una luz en el camino. La oración es hablar con Dios. Cuando lees la Biblia y oras, tu vida cambia. Poco a poco Dios forma tu corazón.

SEMANA 6 — PERTENECER AL PUEBLO DE DIOS

¿Cómo puedes vivir como luz esta semana?

Enseñanza

Dios no nos llama a caminar solos. Somos parte de una familia espiritual. La iglesia es un lugar para:

Crecer
Ser cuidado
Aprender
Servir

Dios nos llamó de la oscuridad a la luz. Ahora vivimos para mostrar su amor. La misión nace de la identidad. Porque pertenecemos a Dios, vivimos diferente.

SEMANA 7 — VENCIENDO LA TENTACIÓN Y CAMINANDO EN PERDÓN

¿Qué enseña la Biblia sobre la tentación?
¿Es Dios fiel en medio de la tentación?
¿Qué nos ensenan estos versículos acerca del corazón de Dios?
¿Según lo qué leí, como debo tratar a los demás?

Enseñanza

Todos somos tentados. La tentación no es lo mismo que pecar, pecar es caer en la tentación. Dios es fiel en medio de tu debilidad y te acompaña.

Dios no es un espectador indiferente de tu situación:

Él pone límites y ofrece salidas.
Perdonamos porque fuimos perdonados.
El perdón me hace bien a mi primero.
El perdón es el amor de Cristo y su gracia actuando a través de mi.

PALABRA FINAL PARA EL DISCÍPULO

Dios está trabajando en tu vida, aunque no siempre lo veas. El crecimiento toma tiempo:

Sigue caminando.
Sigue escuchando.
Sigue obedeciendo.

No necesitas ser perfecto, solo fiel. Dios terminará la obra que comenzó en ti.
